Scope and timing
South Korea operates electronic tax-invoice issuance and transmission to NTS. Determine the issuer's legal form, tax status and current obligation before assigning an electronic route. This review does not publish a fresh individual-business turnover threshold from an old English overview.
NTS operating guidance distinguishes electronic tax-invoice issuance from a simple message announcing that an invoice exists. A link or SMS alone does not complete issuance in the circumstances described; signing and delivery through the specified mechanism matter. NTS electronic invoice guidance
B2B tax invoices, consumer cash receipts and card evidence are distinct processes. B2G purchasing references add another layer. Cross-border services and exports require separate VAT and document decisions rather than automatic treatment as ordinary domestic electronic invoices.
Invoice lifecycle and data
NTS published provider registration and electronic tax-invoice standard certification rules dated 11 May 2026, covering issuance, transmission and operating responsibilities. An integration should therefore be assessed against current technical governance, not merely a vendor's claim to produce invoice files. NTS 2026 system-provider notice
Record issuer and recipient business identifiers, document type, supply date, tax values, signing mechanism and NTS transmission result. Keep recipient delivery evidence separate from tax transmission and commercial acceptance. A successful email should not automatically close the NTS reporting queue.
For corrections, preserve the original invoice relationship and use the applicable modification reason and supported issue process. A customer's refusal to pay is not by itself evidence that the fiscal document should disappear.
ERP implications
Ask the implementer to demonstrate the exact domestic service, permissions, certificate management and acknowledgement mapping. Test expired credentials, rejected tax identifiers and a correction linked to an original document.
For incoming invoices, match both document identity and supplier identity before posting. Maintain a queue for invoices visible in the tax system but not yet approved against a purchase order or receipt. Accounting should explain timing differences instead of using tax-system availability as payment approval.
For retail operations, document the separate cash-receipt or card process and prevent the same sale from becoming duplicate revenue when several evidence feeds arrive.
Sources and evidence limits
The Korean-language operating page and 2026 provider notice were directly readable on 17 October 2026. The copy deliberately leaves current threshold calculations, exceptions and exact transmission deadlines to an entity-specific legal check. It does not claim a tested ERP connection or universal domestic schema for overseas transactions.
Limitations: Current individual-business threshold and universal transaction deadlines not independently established.
